Woodcut

 이언정작가의 판화 작품은 모두 그녀의 손에서 탄생된다. 작가가 상상하는 도시의 색과 모습을 온전히 표현하기 위해 작가가 직접 판을 만들고 프린트한다. 때문에 더 특별하며, 디지털 인쇄 및 공방 판화 작품들과 차별성을 지닌다.

 작가는 알맞은 나무 판을 선택 후 조각칼로 원하는 이미지가 완성될 때까지 나무를 깍아 낸다. 그녀는 마치 도시의 건물들을 하나씩 건설해 나가는 마음으로 즐겁게 판각 작업에 임한다. 이 작업은 짧게는 몇 주에서 몇 달이 걸리기도 한다. 판이 완성되면 알맞은 색을 조색한 후 롤러로 잉킹해 찍어낸다. 다양한 색을 위해 여러 개의 판을 만들어 프린트한다. 그녀는 목판화를 좋아하고 그 과정 모두를 즐긴다. 

 All of Lee's print works were born in her hands. In order to fully express the colors and appearances of the imaginary city, the artist creates and prints the plates with her own hands.

 The artist selects a proper wooden board and then carves it with a carving knife until it become to her desired image. She entertains the carving process as if building a whole city by herself one by one. It takes weeks or even months. Once the plate is completed, she mix the color and inking it with a roller. She creates several plates and prints each to make various color versions. She loves woodcuts and enjoys the whole process.
